Welcome to Inside Out Theatre!

We are a Deaf and disability theatre company in Calgary Alberta who are invested in artistic excellence, community development, and deepening our cultures’ accessibility.

Mission & Mandate

Theatre for Every Body

To nurture belonging, cultural vibrancy, and agency through Deaf, Disability, and Mad arts and culture.

To produce and present plays that showcase the vibrancy of Deaf, Disability, and Mad culture.

To host community-based drama programs that nurture a sense of belonging and provide an antidote to social isolation.

To deepen cultural accessibility for audience members and to ensure their agency and dignity.

Community classes for everybody

We offer community-based drama programs to Calgarians with disabilities to foster a love of theatre, the joy of community, and self-expression.

Theatre by artists with disabilities

We produce and present plays created by artists with disabilities and their allies that insist on and celebrate their place in the public sphere.

Making performing arts accessible

We work to improve theatre’s accessibility for audience members and to ensure their equity and dignity in attending performing arts in Calgary.

Showcase

THE DEMOCRATIC SET serves as a snapshot of our community at this unique moment in time.

Over 40 Calgarians took part in the filming; members of our ensemble, participants from our community programs, folks we’ve only known so far as audience members, and new friends came together to collectively star in this mesmerizing new film.

Created by Back to Back Theatre, presented by Inside Out Theatre & The High Performance Rodeo
