Post-It Portraits w/ Sam Hester
Every member of our Community of Do Gooders, Inside Out’s monthly giving program, can have their very own Post-It Portrait drawn by Calgary artist Sam Hester. We are built by community, and now the smiling faces of our supporters can brighten our space every day!
About The Community of Do Gooders:
Each Do Gooder gives Inside Out a small monthly donation, that when combined fuels every corner of our work. Some join because they’re fans of our shows and love the vibrancy of Deaf, Disabled, and Mad culture, others want to support our community classes and offer the sense of belonging to more Calgarians who need it, and still some Do Gooders are appreciators of The Good Host and our work in making Calgary culture accessible. A select few remain a mystery.
To celebrate our new home in The Beltline and to share our appreciation for our community we’re partnering with Sam Hester to commission Post-It Portraits of all of our Do Gooders!
What’s a Post-It Portrait?
Our Post-It Portraits will be hand drawn by Calgary illustrator Sam Hester as playful and simple portrait on a colourful square background. Just like the Do Gooders, each portrait is pretty cool on it’s own and when combined with the others becomes something transformative!

Sam Hester
Sam Hester is a visual storyteller whose award-winning comics have been published internationally, while telling
real-life stories rooted in Calgary/Moh’kinsstis. Sam uses the medium of autobiographical comics as a tool for community-building.
Since 2014, Sam has worked as a graphic recorder, one of only a handful in Canada. Sam employs deep listening, and a perspective of cultural humility, to document live events, creating “illustrated meeting minutes.” Sam’s 2021 TED Talk about Graphic Medicine (using visual storytelling to support health care) has had almost 2 million views.

“Oh, Erratic rock formations are those giant prairie boulders brought and dropped here by glaciers eons ago, like the Big Rock in Okotoks. They’re out of place but they’re also not going anywhere!” says Cseke.

Not yet! Construction is underway to improve the venue’s accessibility before Inside Out launches a season of programming at The Erratics Indie Arts Club in September.
